Framing A Gambrel Shed Roof
If you have a 10 ft 3 0 m wide shed your roof will be 10 ft 3 0 m wide and 5 ft 1 5 m tall.
Framing a gambrel shed roof. A gambrel shed roof involves significantly more angle cuts than a gable roof but provides more storage space in the attic. Lay a piece of 10 ft 5 ft 3 0 m 1 5 m plywood on the floor. Lay down the piece of plywood in an area with ample space. Attach the components to the gambrel ends and secure them to the framing with 3 1 2 galvanized screws after drilling pilot holes.
Framing a gambrel roof shed. By bruce toms river n j i am building a 8 x 12 shed with 2 x 8 floor frame and gambrel style rafter truss 5 h with ceiling joist that will be overhanging the 8 wall plate 3 on each side. It s much easier to make your own trusses than to build the rafter system or even purchase ready made trusses. Installing the roofing sheets attach 3 4 tongue and groove plywood to the roof trusses following the pattern shown in the image.
It will also have a 2 x 8 ridge beam and a 2 x4 x8 h stud wall with everything on 16 centers. This design offers the most storage space for a storage shed provided the side walls are 6 foot or more. My absolute favorite of all shed roofs is the gambrel style. This means that for every 12 horizontal run you must have at least 3 of rise.
This style has two slopes as opposed to the gable or saltbox designs. This piece of plywood represents the dimensions for your roof and will serve as an assembly site for your rafters.
